Renelyn Fuentes has won the Series Category at the Migrant Workers Photography Festival 2026, with her work now on display at the National Museum of Singapore alongside photographs by fellow Filipino finalists Jenelyn Leyble, Rose Vilog, Donica Villamor and Janelyn Dupingay.
The Philippine Embassy in Singapore visited the exhibition at the National Museum this month to view the works and congratulate the Filipino participants whose photographs the festival recognised this year. Leyble, Vilog and Villamor joined Fuentes as finalists in the Series Category, while Dupingay earned a finalist place in the Singles Category.
The festival presents photography made by migrant workers in Singapore, and the exhibition frames their images as both personal testimony and artistic practice. Through their photographs, the participants offer first-person perspectives on lives that Singapore's residents see daily but rarely hear described from within. The Embassy noted that the recognised works celebrate the lives and experiences of migrant workers while contributing to a wider appreciation of their diverse contributions to Singaporean society.
The strong Filipino presence among the winners reflects the size and creative energy of the Filipino community in the city-state, which forms one of the largest migrant worker populations in Singapore. That a national diplomatic mission chose to visit the show in person signals how far the festival has moved such work from the margins: photography by migrant workers is being exhibited at the National Museum of Singapore, one of the country's flagship cultural institutions.
The Migrant Workers Photography Festival 2026 exhibition remains open to the public at the National Museum of Singapore until 30 September 2026, with free admission. Visitors can view the featured works and read the stories behind the photographs. The run through September gives audiences two more months to see Fuentes's winning series and the broader body of work before the festival closes.
